Abstract
A process for the protection of a compound having at least one reactive functional group selected from hydroxy, mercapto, carboxyl, amino and amide, with 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran (DHP), wherein said DHP is obtained by contacting tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) entrained in a carrier gas with a catalyst comprising aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and wherein the carrier gas is water vapor.

A process for the protection of a compound having at least one reactive functional group selected from hydroxy, mercapto, carboxy, amino and amido, with 3,4-dihydro-2H-pyran (DHP), characterized in that said DHP is obtained by contacting tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) entrained in a carrier gas with a catalyst comprising aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and wherein the carrier gas is water vapor.
