Abstract
This invention provides agents, compositions, pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating or slowing the progression of a neurodegenerating disease, such as Alzheimer's disease and a demyelinating disease.
Claims60
A method of slowing progression of a demyelinating disease in a mammal comprising the step of administering to a mammal suffering from a demyelinating disease a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that increases noradrenaline levels in the mammal's CNS.
A method of promoting myelination in a mammal's central nervous system (CNS), said method comprising the step of administering to a mammal in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of an agent that increases noradrenaline levels in the mammal's CNS.
A method of slowing the progression of Alzheimer's disease or multiple sclerosis in a mammal, the method comprising the step of administering to a mammal suffering from Alzheimer's disease or multiple sclerosis an agent that increases noradrenaline levels in the mammal's CNS, wherein the agent comprises a noradrenaline precursor and a COMT inhibitor.
A method of promoting oligodendrocyte progenitor cell maturation or survival comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof an agent that increases noradrenaline levels in the mammal's CNS, wherein the increased noradrenaline levels promote oligodendrocyte progenitor cell maturation.
A method of promoting oligodendrocyte progenitor cell maturation or survival comprising contacting an oligodendrocyte progenitor cell with noradrenaline.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a noradrenaline precursor, an LAAAD inhibitor and a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor.
