Abstract
The present invention provides a container suitable for providing insulation wherein the container has an inner shrink film liner. The sidewalls of the container, which can be made from paperboard or other suitable material, are vented to allow ambient air to flow through the sidewall of the container during activation of the shrink film. Upon activation the container provides excellent insulation. Methods of making the container are also provided.
Claims17
1) A method of making a vented container blank suitable for preparing an insulated container:
- a) providing a container blank comprising paperboard;
- b) cutting the container blank so as to provide one or more vents in a sidewall of the blank;
- c) applying fluid to one or more of edges of one or more of the vents in the sidewall of the blank, so as to moisten one or more of the edges of one or more of the vents;
- d) applying an adhesive to the container material web in a pattern approximately coinciding with a perimeter of the container blank, thereby providing one or more adhesive patterns on the container blank;
- e) applying a shrink film web to the one or more adhesive patterns to provide a web-shrink film laminate, wherein the shrink film is adhered to the container blank in the locations defined by the one or more adhesive patterns;
- f) subjecting the moistened edges of the vent to a drying step, wherein one or more edges of the vent is deformed so as to allow air to flow through the sidewall during activation of the shrink film;
- wherein the container blank comprises one or more vents in a location within a perimeter defined by the adhesive pattern, and
- wherein the container blank is suitable for preparing an insulated container.
7) A vented container blank suitable for preparing an insulated container:
- a) A container blank comprising paperboard,;
- b) the container blank having one or more openings in a sidewall of the container blank, the openings forming vents;
- c) an adhesive applied to the container blank in a pattern approximately coinciding with a perimeter of the blank, thereby providing one or more adhesive patterns on the blank;
- d) a shrink film, wherein the shrink film is adhered to the container blank in the locations defined by the one or more adhesive patterns;
- wherein the container blank comprises one or more vents in a location within a perimeter defined by the adhesive pattern,
- wherein one or more edges of the one or more vents is deformed so as to allow air to flow through the sidewall during activation of the shrink film;
- and
- wherein the container blank is suitable for preparing an insulated container.
