Abstract
Methods to form a polymer by ring-opening polymerization include reacting, a mixture comprising a monomer, an accelerator, an initiator, and a catalyst comprising a 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol-2-yl group to form the polymer. Also disclosed are polymers including a residual amount of the catalyst in an amount greater than 0 weight percent.
Claims21
A method, comprising:
- reacting, to form a polymer by ring-opening polymerization, a mixture comprising:
- a monomer,
- an accelerator,
- an initiator, and
- a catalyst comprising one or more 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol-2-yl groups.
A polymer derived from a cyclic ester or a cyclic carbonate, comprising a residual amount of a catalyst comprising one or more 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol-2-yl groups, in an amount greater than 0 wt %.
A method, comprising:
- reacting, to form a polymer by ring-opening polymerization, a mixture comprising:
- a cyclic ester and/or cyclic carbonate monomer,
- 0.1 to 5.0 mol % a nitrogen base accelerator,
- 0.1 to 5.0 mol % an alcohol initiator based on an equivalent molecular weight per hydroxyl group in the alcohol initiator, and
- 0.2 to 20 mol % of a catalyst comprising one or more 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol-2-yl groups;
- wherein mol % is based on moles of the monomer.
