Method and apparatus for providing awareness information over an ad-hoc mesh network

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs,
• the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following,
• receive a flooding message from a neighboring wireless node,
• classify one or more neighboring wireless nodes into one or more distance categories, and
• determine whether and when to continue retransmission of the flooding message based on the distance category of the neighboring wireless node from which the flooding message was received, one or more predefined retransmission criteria, or a combination thereof.
