Abstract
A method of preferentially removing or recovering silica from a source, including aqueous sources such as ground and potable water, which utilizes a modified ion exchange material that holds or captures the silica by ion exchange with a metal contained in the exchange material whereby the method includes the steps of: providing an ion exchange material; immobilizing a metal complex to form at least a portion of a metal containing substance inside the ionic exchange material; and contacting the source with at least a portion of the metal containing ionic exchange material.
Claims24
A method of removing or recovering at least silica from a source, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing an ion exchange material;
- (b) immobilizing a metal-containing complex throughout the exchange material;
- and
- (c) contacting the source with the metal-containing exchange material.
A method of removing or recovering silica from a source, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) exchanging a metal-containing cation onto a cation exchange material;
- (b) immobilizing the metal as a precipitate throughout the exchange material;
- and
- (c) contacting the source with at least a portion of the metal containing exchange material.
A method of removing or recovering silica from a source, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) loading an anionic substance comprising a metal-containing complex onto an anion exchange material;
- (b) immobilizing at least a portion of the metal of the metal-containing complex throughout the anion exchange material to form a metal-containing anion exchange material;
- and
- (c) contacting the source with the metal-containing anion exchange material.
A method of simultaneously softening and removing silica from water in a single ion exchanger, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) providing an ion exchange material;
- (b) immobilizing a metal-containing complex throughout the exchange material;
- and
- (c) contacting the water with at least a portion of the metal-containing exchange material.
