A method for at least partial emptying of an extracorporeal blood circulation after a patient's the blood of patient in the extracorporeal blood circulation has been returned to the patient with the help of an infusion liquid which displaces the blood and the patient has been separated from the extracorporeal blood circulation,
- whereby the extracorporeal circulation has an arterial blood line (5) leading from an arterial connection point (13, 14) to the blood chamber (3) of a hemodialyzer (1) divided by a semipermeable membrane (2) into a blood chamber (3) and a dialysis fluid chamber (4), also having the blood chamber (3) of the hemodialyzer (1) and a venous blood line (73) leading from the blood chamber (3) to a venous connection point (15, 16), whereby the method
- is characterized in that
- without additionally connecting the arterial and venous blood lines together, the arterial blood line (5) is actively or passively aerated at a first point (50) and/or the venous blood line (7) is active or passively aerated at a second point (40) and
- the liquid in the chamber (3) of the hemodialyzer (1) and in the section of the arterial blood line (5) between the blood chamber (3) and the first point (50) and/or in the section of the venous blood line (7) between the blood chamber (3) and the second point (40) is emptied through the semipermeable membrane (2) into the dialysis fluid chamber (4) and a dialysis fluid discharge line (21) leaving said chamber.
