Wireless, internet-based, medical diagnostic system

A system for monitoring a patient, said system comprising:

• a portable processing module configured to be worn on the patient's body, the processing module comprising a plug-in socket that receives information from an external device;
• a finger-ring sensor in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to be worn on the patient's finger, the finger-ring sensor comprising a light source and a photodetector configured to measure vital sign information from the patient;
• a location-determining module configured to receive location-related information over a wireless network and determine the patient's location therefrom;
• and
• a wireless system in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to wirelessly transmit information over the wireless network to an external receiver, the transmitted information concerning the vital sign information and the patient's location.

A system for monitoring a patient, said system comprising:

• a portable processing module configured to be worn on the patient's body, the processing module comprising a plug-in socket that receives information from an external device;
• a finger sensor in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to be worn on the patient's finger, the finger sensor comprising a light source and a photodetector configured to measure optical waveform information from the patient;
• at least one separate module for measuring vital signs from the patient based on the optical waveform information, the separate module in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to measure a vital sign selected from the group consisting of blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature;
• a location-determining module in electrical communication with the processing module, configured to receive location-related information over the wireless network and determine the patient's location therefrom;
• and
• a wireless system in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to wirelessly transmit information over a wireless network to an external receiver, the transmitted information describing vital sign information computed from the optical waveform information, and the patient's location.

A system for monitoring a patient, said system comprising:

• a portable processing module configured to be worn on the patient's body;
• a finger sensor in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to be worn on the patient's finger, the finger sensor comprising a light source and a photodetector configured to measure optical waveform information from the patient;
• a location-determining module configured to receive location-related information over a wireless network and determine the patient's location therefrom;
• a wireless system in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to wirelessly transmit information over the wireless network to an external receiver, the transmitted information describing vital sign information computed from the optical waveform information, and the patient's location to an external receiver and also configured to receive incoming messages;
• and
• a system for displaying the incoming message.

A system for monitoring a patient, said system comprising:

• a portable processing module configured to be worn on the patient's body;
• a finger sensor in electrical communication with the processing module and configured to be worn on the patient's finger, the finger sensor comprising a light source and a photodetector configured to measure vital sign information from the patient;
• a location-determining module configured to receive location-related information over a wireless network and determine the patient's location therefrom;
• a wireless system in electrical communication with the processing module configured to wirelessly transmit information over the wireless network to an external receiver, the transmitted information concerning the vital sign information and the patient's location and also configured to receive incoming messages;
• a text-to-speech conversion system, in electrical communication with the processing module, and configured to receive information about the patient's vital signs and convert this to audio information which is then transmitted to the patient.
