Apparatus and process for treating an aqueous solution containing chemical contaminants

An apparatus for treating an aqueous solution containing a chemical contaminant, the apparatus comprising:

• a container having a fluid flow path for an aqueous solution;
• and
• an aggregate composition disposed in the fluid flow path, the aggregate composition comprising an insoluble rare earth-containing compound for removing or detoxifying a chemical contaminant in the aqueous solution.

The process of claim 47, wherein the chemical contaminant is selected from the group consisting essentially of an organosulfur agent, an organophosphorous agent or a mixture thereof.

The process of claim 47, wherein the chemical contaminant is selected from the group consisting essentially of pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, and mixtures thereof.

A composition, comprising:

• a water insoluble rare earth-containing compound;
• and
• a chemical contaminant in contact with, and deactivated by, the water insoluble rare earth compound.

A process, comprising:

• providing a contaminated rare earth-containing composition in contact with a chemical contaminant or derivative thereof;
• treating the contaminated rare earth-containing composition to provide a regenerated rare earth-containing composition substantially free of chemical contaminants or derivatives thereof for reuse or disposal.
