Abstract
Provided herein are methods for reducing or preventing neutrophilic inflammation in a subject comprising selecting a subject with or at risk for neutrophilic inflammation and administering to the subject an agent that inhibits the expression or activity of prolyl endopeptidase. Provided herein are also methods for treatment or prevention of diseases associated with neutrophilic inflammation.
Claims39
A method for reducing or preventing neutrophilic inflammation in a subject comprising:
- (a) selecting a subject with or at risk for neutrophilic inflammation;
- and
- (b) administering to the subject an agent that inhibits the expression or activity of prolyl endopeptidase, wherein the agent that inhibits the expression or activity of prolyl endopeptidase is selected from the group consisting of a proline derivative, a pyrrolidineamide derivative, a prolinal derivative, a sulfated chitooligosaccharide, a plant phenolic, eurystatin, an inhibitory peptide, and an inhibitory nucleic acid.

A method of determining whether a subject has neutrophilic inflammation or a disease associated with neutrophilic inflammation, comprising:
- (a) obtaining a biological sample from the subject;
- and
- (b) determining the level of expression or activity of PE in the sample, wherein an increase in expression or activity of PE as compared to a control indicates the subject has neutrophilic inflammation or a disease associated with neutrophilic inflammation.
