Paper coating slips comprising at least one pigment and A) an aqueous polymer dispersion obtainable by emulsion polymerization (emulsion polymer for short) and B) a polysilicic acid dissolved or dispersed in water or dispersed silica (summarized as silica sol).

- A) an aqueous polymer dispersion obtained by emulsion polymerization and
- B) a silica sol which is polysilicic acid dissolved or dispersed in water or dispersed silica.
