Abstract
Methods and compositions for diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders are disclosed. The methods and compositions apply the discovery of the correlation between an hGDH2 gene polymorphism and the occurrence of atypical Parkinson's Disease.
Claims17
A method for diagnosis of susceptibility to early onset Parkinson's disease comprising identifying a nucleic acid sequence exhibiting a polymorphism in GLUD2 gene, whereby that polymorphism comprises a substitution of guanine for tyrosine at position 1492.
A method for any of diagnosis and prediction of a neurodegenerative condition, wherein the method comprises the step of identifying a nucleic acid sequence exhibiting a polymorphism in an hGDH2 gene, whereby that polymorphism comprises a substitution of a whereby that polymorphism comprises a substitution of guanine for tyrosine at position 1492, and wherein the neurodegenerative condition is thereby diagnosed or predicted.
A method for treating a patient with a disease linked to GDH disorders characterized by degeneration of neurons comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of an agent selected from the group consisting of a small organic compound, a steroid, an estrogen, or an inorganic compound to a patient with the disease.
A method for postponing onset of a disease linked to GDH disorders characterized by degeneration of neurons comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of an agent selected from the group consisting of a small organic compound, a steroid, an estrogen, or an inorganic compound to a patient with the disease.
A method for slowing progression of a disease linked to GDH disorders characterized by degeneration of neurons comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of an agent selected from the group consisting of a small organic compound, a steroid, an estrogen, or an inorganic compound to a patient with the disease.
The method of claim 16 wherein the agent modifies Glutamate levels.
