Abstract
In one embodiment, the present invention is a method and apparatus for generalized third party call control in session initiation protocol networks. In one embodiment, a method for controlling a media negotiation with one or more endpoints in a network includes determining, for each endpoint, a current state of a corresponding port on a third-party controller and transitioning the corresponding port to a new state in accordance with a finite state machine that tracks the state of the media negotiation.
Claims20
A method for controlling a media negotiation with one or more endpoints in a network, comprising:
- determining, for each of the one or more endpoints, a current state of a corresponding port on a third-party controller;
- and
- transitioning the corresponding port to a new state in accordance with a finite state machine that tracks a state of the media negotiation.
A computer readable storage medium containing an executable program for controlling a media negotiation with one or more endpoints in a network, where the program performs the steps of:
- determining, for each of the one or more endpoints, a current state of a corresponding port on a third-party controller;
- and
- transitioning the corresponding port to a new state in accordance with a finite state machine that tracks a state of the media negotiation.
A Voice over Internet Protocol network, comprising:
- a plurality of user devices;
- and
- a third-party controller for controlling a media negotiation involving at least one of the plurality of user devices, where the third party controller:
- determines, for the at least one of the plurality of user devices, a current state of a corresponding port on the third-party controller;
- and
- transitions the corresponding port to a new state in accordance with a finite state machine that tracks a state of the media negotiation.
