Multi-radio controller and methods for preventing interference between co-located transceivers

A method performed by a multi-radio controller of a multi-radio device for receiving downlink data frames, the method comprising:

• determining a duration and a period of active periods of a co-located wireless wide-area network (WWAN) transceiver;
• calculating a duration of a transmission opportunity from the duration and the period of the active periods;
• and
• instructing a wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver to transmit a triggering frame after one of the active periods, the triggering frame to indicate the duration of the transmission opportunity,
• wherein in response to receipt of the triggering frame, a WLAN access point is configured to transmit a downlink data frame within the transmission opportunity.

A multi-radio device comprising:

• a wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver;
• a wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver;
• and
• a multi-radio controller (MRC) configured to determine a duration and a period of active periods of the WWAN transceiver, calculate a duration of a transmission opportunity from the duration and the period of the active periods, and instruct the WLAN transceiver to transmit a triggering frame after one of the active periods, the triggering frame to indicate the duration of the transmission opportunity,
• wherein in response to receipt of the triggering frame, a WLAN access point is configured to transmit a downlink data frame to the WLAN transceiver within the transmission opportunity.

A dual-mode wireless card comprising:

• a wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver;
• a wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver;
• and
• a multi-radio controller (MRC) configured to transmit a triggering frame after an active period of the WWAN transceiver, the triggering frame to indicate a duration of a transmission opportunity for reception of a downlink data frame by the WLAN transceiver.
