Cable assembly comprising a cable portion, and a cable receiving unit being formed as a plug-in connector element, said cable receiving unit having an information carrier unit associated, from which information can be read out by electromagnetic field coupling, said information carrier unit comprising a memory in which at least one kind of data and of design data, functional data of said cable assembly is stored.
