Oxidizing composition including a gel layer

A slow dissolving composition for the controlled release of chlorine dioxide and free halogen for use in multi-tablet chemical dispensers for the treatment of recirculating systems, wherein the composition comprises:

• a mixture of components comprising from 9-50 weight % of a chlorite donor, 40-90 weight % of a free halogen donor, and a gelling agent comprising from 0.1-10 weight % of gel-forming material;
• and
• wherein, the chlorite conversion to chlorine dioxide is at least 70 weight %;
• and
• wherein, the gel-forming material comprising at least one of a natural, semi-synthetic, and synthetic polymer;
• and
• wherein the composition is in the form of a tablet.

A slow dissolving tablet composition for the controlled release of a biocidal solution comprising at least chlorine dioxide and free halogen, wherein the composition comprises:

• a mixture of components comprising from 5-50 weight % of a chlorite donor, 40-90 weight % of a free halogen donor, and a gelling agent comprising from 0.1-10 weight % of gel-forming material;
• and
• wherein, the chlorite conversion to chlorine dioxide is at least 70 weight %;
• and
• wherein, the gel-forming material comprising at least one of a natural, semi-synthetic, and synthetic polymer;
• and
• wherein, the chlorite donor is coated with at least some portion of the gel-forming material.
