Playback apparatus, integrated circuit, and playback method considering trickplay

An integrated circuit embeddable in a playback apparatus, a playback mode of which can be switched between a 3D mode to show a user video frames stereoscopically and a 2D mode to show a user video frames monoscopically, the integrated circuit comprising:

• a dimension determining unit operable to determine, when a digital stream that includes a left-view video stream and a right-view video stream is read from a recording medium, whether the digital stream read from the recording medium supports 3D mode;
• a demultiplexer operable, when (i) the digital stream supports 3D mode and (ii) the current playback mode is 3D mode, to separate both the left-view video stream and the right-view video stream from the digital stream, and when condition (i) or (ii) is not met, to separate one of the left-view video stream and the right-view video stream from the digital stream;
• and
• a video decoder operable to obtain video frames to show stereoscopically or monoscopically by decoding separated video streams.

A playback method used on a computer, a playback mode of which can be switched between 3D mode to show a user video frames stereoscopically and 2D mode to show the user video frames monoscopically, comprising the steps of:

• reading a digital stream that includes a left-view video stream and a right-view video stream from a recording medium;
• determining whether the digital stream read from the recording medium supports 3D mode;
• when (i) the digital stream supports 3D mode and (ii) the current playback mode is 3D mode, separating both the left-view video stream and the right-view video stream from the digital stream, and when condition (i) or (ii) is not met, separating one of the left-view video stream and the right-view video stream from the digital stream;
• and
• decoding the separated video stream to obtain video frames to show stereoscopically or monoscopically.
