Systems, methods and computer programs for financial data evaluation

A computer system for evaluating data sets comprising financial data, the system comprising:

• an evaluation engine configured to generate a plurality of financial evaluation rules and to communicate with an application through an interface, the evaluation engine being further configured to receive periodic data sets representative of financial information, the evaluation engine further comprising:
• a processing unit for receiving the data sets, wherein the data sets comprise financial data including status information, and include at least posting dates and associated financial evaluation rules;
• a memory storing a software routine configured to be executed by the processing unit to perform an evaluation of the received data sets;
• a software routine stored in the memory that when executed by the processing unit performs an evaluation of the received data sets comprising the steps of:
• specifying an evaluation period by receiving an end date;
• sorting the data sets by posting date to provide an ordered sequence of data sets;
• creating an initial segment covering the evaluation period;
• adding a first data set of the ordered sequence to the initial segment, wherein the initial segment is associated with the financial evaluation rule of the first data set;
• and
• adding a consecutive data set of the sequence to the initial segment if the consecutive data set has the same posting date and financial evaluation rule as the first data set or, otherwise, splitting the initial segment into a first and a second segment,
• wherein the second segment is a consecutive segment of the first segment and contains the consecutive data set, and
• wherein the first segment is associated with the financial rule of the first data set and the second segment is associated with the financial rule of the second data set;
• and
• evaluating the data sets included in the initial, first, and second segments, in accordance with the financial evaluation rules associated with each respective segment.

A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause a computer to perform a method for financial data evaluation comprising the steps of:

• receiving data sets comprising financial data that includes status information, the data sets having at least posting dates and having associated financial evaluation rules;
• receiving an end date;
• specifying of an evaluation period;
• sorting, using a computer, the data sets by posting data to provide an ordered sequence of data sets;
• creating an initial segment covering the evaluation period;
• adding a first data set of the sequence to the initial segment, the initial segment being associated with a financial evaluation rule of the first data set;
• adding a consecutive data set of the sequence to the initial segment if the consecutive data set has the same posting date and financial evaluation rule as the first data set or, otherwise, splitting the initial segment into a first segment and a second segment,
• wherein the second segment is a consecutive segment of the first segment and contains the consecutive data set, and
• wherein the first segment is associated with the financial rule of the first data set, and the second segment is associated with the financial rule of the second data set;
• and
• evaluating the data sets of the initial, first, and second segments, in accordance with the financial evaluation rules associated with each respective segment.

A computer-implemented method for evaluating data sets comprising financial data, the method comprising:

• receiving data sets comprising financial data that includes status information, the data sets including at least posting dates and having associated financial evaluation rules;
• receiving an end date;
• specifying an evaluation period;
• sorting, using a computer, the data sets by posting date to provide an ordered sequence of data sets;
• creating data segment including the evaluation period;
• adding a first data set of the sequence to the initial segment, the initial segment being associated with a financial evaluation rule of the first data set;
• adding a consecutive data set of the ordered sequence to the initial segment if the consecutive data set has the same posting date and financial evaluation rule as the first data set or, otherwise, splitting the initial segment into a first segment and a second segment;
• processing, by the computer, further consecutive data sets of the ordered sequence, wherein said adding occurs when a consecutive data set matches an initial data set, and said splitting of the initial segment into first and second segments occurs if the posting date of the consecutive data set is not the same as the first data set, wherein the first segment covers a time span between an initial posting and a consecutive posting date and the second segment covers a time span between a consecutive posting date and the end date, and further wherein said splitting also occurs if the posting date of the consecutive data set is the same, but the consecutive data set comprises a different financial evaluation rule;
• and
• evaluating the initial, first, and second segments by performing a calculation using an algorithm and a base value that is calculated by a linear method that is associated with each segment, wherein the algorithm is designed to perform the calculation simultaneously.
