Temperature sensor and method of compensating for change in output characteristic due to varying temperature

A method of compensating for a change in an output characteristic due to varying temperature by using a temperature sensor, the method comprising:

• generating, by a temperature sensing core, a sense voltage corresponding to a sensed temperature;
• converting, by an analog-to-digital converter, the sense voltage into a digital signal;
• generating, by the analog-to-digital converter, a conversion signal;
• generating, by a temperature compensating circuit, a counter clock signal;
• and
• counting, by a counter, the number of pulses of the counter clock signal according to the conversion signal, wherein a frequency of the counter clock signal varies according to a temperature sensed by the temperature sensor.

A method of sensing a temperature, the method comprising:

• sensing a temperature by a temperature sensor;
• generating a voltage, by the temperature sensor, the voltage having an associated first non-linear function versus temperature based on the temperature characteristics of the temperature sensor;
• converting the voltage to a digital signal by an analog-to-digital converter, the digital signal having an associated second non-linear function versus temperature based on the generated voltage and the temperature characteristics of the analog-to-digital converter;
• and
• outputting a temperature signal by a counter, the counter having an associated third non-linear function versus temperature, the third non-linear function having temperature characteristics to cancel the first and second non-linear functions versus temperature the cancelled non-linear functions results in the temperature signal being linear versus temperature.
