Abstract
The seal made between two surfaces is enhanced by forming a coating (22), such as a self-assembled monolayer of a functionalized fluorinated macromolecule, on one or both of the surfaces.
Claims20
A flow control device including at least two cooperating parts structured to sealingly engage one another, these cooperating parts defining respective mating sealing surfaces which form a sealing interface when these cooperating parts sealingly engage one another, at least one of these mating sealing surfaces being formed from a coating which is softer than the materials from which the cooperating parts are made, wherein the coating on at least one mating sealing surface is a self assembled monolayer.
