System and Method for Generating a 2D Image from a Tomosynthesis Data Set

A method comprising:

• obtaining a plurality of x-ray tomosynthesis projection images of a patient's breast;
• reconstructing the plurality of x-ray tomosynthesis projection images into a three dimensional reconstructed image comprising a plurality of slices;
• and
• synthesizing a two-dimensional mammogram using at least a subset of the three-dimensional reconstructed image;
• and
• displaying the synthesized mammogram on a display device.

An image review station comprising:

• a display, the display including a first portion for displaying a first image of a pair of images of a breast, and a second portion for displaying a second image of the pair of images of the breast;
• a user interface enabling a user to place a first mark at a first x-y location in at least one of the images of the pair;
• and
• means for generating and displaying a second mark at a corresponding x-y location of the other image of the pair.
