Sound Reduce Segmented Idler For Track-Type Vehicles

An idler for a track-type undercarriage including a track comprising interconnected track links and bushings associated with the track links and positioned to contact the idler, the bushings being separated from each other along the track by a track pitch, the idler comprising:

• a hub having a flange;
• and
• a plurality of rim members arranged generally around a perimeter of the flange and secured to the flange, each rim member including an arcuate bearing surface having a chordal length less than or equal to the track pitch.

A rim element for an idler including an axis of rotation and a hub, the rim element comprising:

• a rim member including a bearing surface and side surfaces extending from the bearing surface and directed generally axially when the rim element is mounted on the idler, the side surfaces including an interlocking formation including at least one of a protrusion and a recess, the side surfaces also including a locking surface;
• a dampening member fixed to at least one of the side surfaces of the rim member.
