Abstract
An implant for filling and/or distracting a body region, particularly a non-soft tissue cavity, has a plurality of segments wherein at least two of the segments are flexibly connected. The segments have a crush-strength sufficient to create and/or maintain the distraction of two or more non-soft tissue body surfaces, and to maintain the stability of the body region. The implant may be inserted into a cavity by an applicator having a cannula with a distal opening, and a rotary driver for applying force to move the implant within the cannula.

A locking device for securing a fastener within a fastener cavity, the locking device comprising:
- an elongate body having a distal end and a proximal end;
- and
- at least one implant comprising an array of flexibly connected segments wherein at least one implant is adapted to become lodged against the elongate body to help anchor the elongate body in the fastener cavity.
An anchor, comprising:
- an elongate body;
- a plurality of flexibly connected segments;
- and
- a coupler attached to the flexibly connected segments, wherein the coupler is configured to attach to a region of the elongate body so that the flexibly connected segments surround the elongate body and are adapted to become lodged against the elongate body to help anchor the elongate body within a fastener cavity.
A method of securing a fastener within a fastener cavity, the method comprising:
- inserting an implant into the fastener cavity, wherein the implant comprises a plurality of flexibly connected segments adapted to make contact and lock with a fastener;
- inserting the fastener into the fastener cavity engaging the locking device between at least a portion of the fastener and a side of the fastener cavity.
