Abstract

A cutting insert for machining a workpiece. The abstract of the disclosure is submitted herewith as required by 37 C.F.R. §1.72(b). As stated in 37 C.F.R. §1.72(b): A brief abstract of the technical disclosure in the specification must commence on a separate sheet, preferably following the claims, under the heading “Abstract of the Disclosure.” The purpose of the abstract is to enable the Patent and Trademark Office and the public generally to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and gist of the technical disclosure. The abstract shall not be used for interpreting the scope of the claims. Therefore, any statements made relating to the abstract are not intended to limit the claims in any manner and should not be interpreted as limiting the claims in any manner.

Dependent claims

A cutting insert comprising:

a planar bearing surface and a rake surface being disposed opposite to and a distance from said bearing surface;
at least one flank surface being disposed between and to connect said bearing surface and said rake surface;
said at least one flank surface being disposed at an acute angle to said rake surface to form a positive clearance angle and at an obtuse angle to said bearing surface;
said at least one flank surface and said rake surface being disposed to together form an encircling round cutting edge;
said cutting edge comprising a first cutting edge point and a second cutting edge point;
the distance from said first cutting edge point to a plane defined by said bearing surface, as measured along a line extending from said first cutting edge point and perpendicular to the bearing surface plane, being the maximum distance of a cutting edge point away from the bearing surface plane;
the distance from said second cutting edge point to the bearing surface plane, as measured along a line extending from said second cutting edge point and perpendicular to the bearing surface plane, being the minimum distance of a cutting edge point away from the bearing surface plane;
and
each of said cutting edge points lies in a cylindrical plane perpendicular to said bearing surface plane and is disposed equidistant from a central axis of said cutting insert.
