Method of Apparatus for Processing a Signal

An apparatus for processing a signal, the apparatus comprising:

• a tuner receiving broadcast signals including audio data encoded by a data coding scheme and video data;
• a demodulator demodulating the broadcast signals using a scattered pilot which varies over time and a continual pilot which is fixed over time in a frame of the received broadcast signals to the output broadcast stream;
• a demultiplexer demultiplexing the broadcast stream into video and the audio stream;
• and
• a decoder obtaining data coding identification information from the audio stream and decoding the audio data according to the data coding scheme indicated by the data coding identification information,
• wherein the data coding scheme includes a pilot coding scheme, wherein the pilot coding scheme decodes the audio data using a pilot reference value corresponding to a plurality of data units in the audio data and the pilot difference value, and wherein the pilot difference value is generated using the audio data and the pilot reference value.

A method for processing a signal, the method comprising:

• encoding audio data by a data coding scheme and generating audio stream including the encoded audio data and data coding identification information according to the data coding scheme;
• multiplexing video stream and the audio stream to broadcast signals and encoding the broadcast signals for transmission error correction;
• inserting a scattered pilot which varies over time and a continual pilot which is fixed over time in a frame of the broadcast signals and modulating the inserted broadcast signals by an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme;
• and
• converting the broadcast signal to a RF signal and transmitting the RF signal,
• wherein the data coding scheme includes a pilot coding scheme wherein the pilot coding scheme encodes the audio data using a pilot reference value corresponding to a plurality of data units in the audio data and the pilot reference value, and wherein the pilot difference value is generated using the audio data and the pilot reference value.

An apparatus for processing a signal, the apparatus comprising:

• a first encoder encoding audio data by a data coding scheme and generating audio stream including the encoded audio data and data coding identification information according to the data coding scheme;
• a multiplexer multiplexing video stream and the audio stream to broadcast signals;
• a second encoder encoding the broadcast signals for transmission error correction;
• a mapper inserting a scattered pilot which varies over time and a continual pilot which is fixed over time in a frame of the broadcast signals;
• a modulator modulating the inserted broadcast signals by an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme;
• a converter converting the broadcast signal to a RF signal;
• and
• a transmitter transmitting the RF signal,
• wherein the data coding scheme includes a pilot coding scheme, wherein the pilot coding scheme encodes the audio data using a pilot reference value corresponding to a plurality of data units in the audio data and a pilot difference value, and wherein the pilot difference value is generated using the audio data and the pilot reference value.
