Abstract
This invention relates to a method and device for catchment of platinum group metals (PGM) in a gaseous stream, where the method comprises using a catalyst comprising a porous ceramic body in which at least a part of the surface area is covered by one or more PGM-catching metal(s)/alloy(s), and where the device comprises the porous ceramic body in which at least a part of the surface area is covered by one or more PGM-catching metal(s)/alloy(s). In a further aspect, the invention also relates to a method for producing the inventive device.
Claims15
A platinum group metal (PGM) catching device,
- characterised in that the catalyst comprises a porous ceramic body in which at least a part of the surface area is covered by one or more PGM-catching metal(s)/alloy(s).
Method for catching platinum group metals in a gaseous state, characterised in that the gaseous state is made to pass through the pores of a porous ceramic body at least partially coated with one or more PGM-catching metal(s)/alloy(s).
Method for producing a platinum group metal catching device, where a porous ceramic body is to be coated with a layer of palladium, characterised in that the method comprises
- 1) submerging the porous ceramic body in a solution comprising Sn2+-ions until the ceramic body is thoroughly wetted by the solution and then retrieve the ceramic body from the solution,
- 2) submerging the wet ceramic body in a solution comprising Pd2+-ions for a sufficient time to allow the following reaction to take place:
- Sn2++Pd2+→Sn4+→Pd0,
- 3) repeat step 1) and 2) until an initial layer of Pd is formed on the surface of the porous ceramic body, and then
- 4) submerging the porous ceramic body with the initial Pd-layer in a solution comprising Pd2+-ions and a reducing agent for a sufficient time to grow a Pd-layer of desired thickness on the surfaces of the ceramic body.
