Abstract
The present invention provides biocompatible, biodegradable matrices formed from poly-α(1→4)glucopyranose and reactive hydrazide groups. The matrices can be used for various applications in the body, including drug delivery and cell therapy.
Claims26
A biodegradable, biocompatible crosslinked polymeric matrix comprising a poly-α(1→4)glucopyranose polymeric segment and a linker segment including a formula selected from:
- wherein at least a portion of the linker segments is covalently bonded to a portion of the α(1→4)glucopyranose polymeric segment.
A system for forming a biodegradable, biocompatible crosslinked polymeric matrix the system comprising:
- an α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer and that comprises pendent first reactive groups, and
- a second polymer that comprises pendent second reactive groups that are reactive with the first reactive groups,
- wherein:
- either the first or second reactive groups comprise hydrazide groups, and
- the hydrazide groups or the second reactive groups have a degree of substitution on the α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer in the range of 0.05 to about 1.0, and the first or second reactive groups that do not comprise a hydrazide group comprise hydrazide-reactive groups, and
- the second component comprises a α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer or a component that is different that a α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer.
A method for forming a biodegradable, biocompatible crosslinked polymeric matrix the system comprising at step of:
- contacting a α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer comprising pendent first reactive groups with a second component that comprises pendent second reactive groups that are reactive with the first reactive groups, wherein the first or second reactive groups comprise hydrazide groups, and the first or second reactive groups that do not comprise hydrazide groups comprise hydrazide-reactive groups, the hydrazide groups or the second reactive groups have a degree of substitution on the α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer in the range of 0.05 to about 1.0, and wherein the second component comprises a α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer or a component that is different that a α(1→4)glucopyranose polymer.
