Apparatus for continuous measurement of heterogeneity of geomaterials

An apparatus for continuous measurement of a geomaterial, comprising:

• a measuring device comprising:
• a moving head configured to move in a longitudinal direction relative to a core section of the geomaterial;
• a first probe coupled to the moving head and configured to continuously measure a first property of the core section in a first continuous measurement;
• and
• a second probe coupled to the moving head and configured to extract a plurality of core samples from the core section;
• a flat bed operatively coupled to the measuring device and comprising:
• a load actuator configured to:
• apply axial stress to the core section;
• and
• axially rotate the core section;
• and
• a core holder assembly configured to apply confining pressure on the length of the core section;
• and
• a controller configured to determine, based on the first continuous measurement, a location to extract each of the plurality of core samples from the core section.

An apparatus for continuous measurement of a geomaterial, comprising:

• a mobile measuring device comprising:
• a moving head configured to move along a surface of the geomaterial, the geomaterial positioned at a location comprising an exposed earthen surface;
• and
• a probe coupled to the moving head and configured to perform a scratch test to continuously measure a property along the surface of the geomaterial at the location;
• and
• a controller configured to use the moving head to adjust a depth of the probe.
