Scheduling network distributed jobs

An article of manufacture comprising:

• a machine-accessible storage medium including data that, when accessed by a machine, cause the machine to perform a method comprising:
• receiving a request to process a plurality of computation jobs;
• generating a size metric corresponding to a size of an executable image of each computation job and a corresponding data set associated with each computation job;
• adjusting a priority of each computation job based on its respective size metric and a system configuration setting;
• and
• scheduling the process of each computation job according to the priority of each computation job.

A scheduler comprising:

• a measuring module to measure a size of an executable image and a corresponding data set associated with the executable image of a computation job;
• a size metric computation module coupled to the measuring module to compute a computation job size based on the measurement of the size of the executable image and the corresponding data set;
• a prioritizing module coupled to the size metric module to prioritize the computation job based on the computation job size;
• and
• a scheduler configuration setting module coupled to the prioritizing module to store a user-defined priority setting.
