Abstract
Methods and apparatus for controlling a hem profile in roll-forming processes are described. An example roll-forming apparatus includes a first plurality of work rolls to form a first hem on a material and a second plurality of work rolls. One of the second plurality of work rolls is adjustable relative to an opposing work roll and to the first plurality of work rolls to adjustably control a profile of the first hem.
Claims31
A roll-forming apparatus, comprising:
- a first plurality of work rolls to form a first hem on a material;
- and
- a second plurality of work rolls, wherein one of the second plurality of work rolls is adjustable relative to an opposing work roll and to the first plurality of work rolls to adjustably control a profile of the first hem.
A method of roll-forming, comprising:
- adjusting one of a first plurality of work rolls relative to an opposing one of the first plurality of work rolls and a second plurality of work rolls;
- moving a material through the second plurality of work rolls to form a first hem on the material;
- and
- moving the material through the first plurality of work rolls to form a profile of the first hem.
A roll-forming apparatus, comprising:
- a first plurality of work rolls to form a first hem on a material;
- and
- a second plurality of work rolls, wherein one of the second plurality of work rolls is movable relative to one of the first plurality of work rolls to adjustably control a profile of the first hem.
A roll-forming apparatus, comprising:
- a means to form a first hem on a material;
- and
- a means for controlling a profile of the first hem.
The apparatus as defined in claim 25 further comprising:
- a means to form a second hem on the material;
- and
- a means for controlling a profile of the second hem.
A work roll for use with a roll-forming apparatus, comprising:
- a substantially planar surface to contact a material to be formed;
- and
- a recess adjacent the planar surface configured to change a hem profile on the material based on a distance between the work roll and an opposing work roll.
