Abstract
Preparing dyes suitable for cosmetic use that start with known dyes and link them, for example, with 1,3,5 triazine to bulky organic groups that control solubility.
Claims25
Dyes of the composition X-L-(Y)z wherein X is a dye moiety which can be natural or synthetic, covalently bound to L which is a linker moiety, and also covalently bound to “Y” which is an organic moiety of at least 3 cyclic rings selected from the group consisting of carbocycles, heterocycles, aromatics, heteroaromatics and macrocycles.
Dyes of the composition X-L-(Y)z wherein X is a dye moiety selected from the group consisting of FD&C and D&C dyes, covalently bound to L which is a linker moiety, and also covalently bound to “Y” which is an organic moiety of at least 3 cyclic rings selected from the group consisting of carbocycles, heterocycles, aromatics, heteroaromatics and macrocycles.
The method of making a natural or synthetic dye that is normally water soluble suitable for use in cosmetics whether oil based or water based cosmetics, said method comprising:
- reacting the dye with a linker group to provide covalent linkage of the dye to the linker group;
- and
- thereafter reacting the linker group with an organic molecule selected to control solubility to provide an industrial dye covalently linked to an organic substituent that controls solubility and dye stability in cosmetic compositions.
