A method of processing payment of a healthcare claim, the method comprising:

• receiving at a gateway, an electronic payment instruction comprising payment information and remittance information;
• routing the remittance information to a healthcare provider;
• and
• routing the payment information to a payment processing network to cause a transfer of funds from a first financial institution of a payor, to a second financial institution of the healthcare provider.

A system for processing payment of a healthcare claim, the system comprising:

• a gateway configured to receive from a payor, an electronic payment instruction comprising payment information and remittance information;
• a first path flowing the remittance information to a healthcare provider;
• and
• a second path flowing the payment information to an electronic payment processing network in communication with a financial institution of the healthcare provider.
