Abstract
A dynamic stabilization, motion preservation spinal implant system includes an anchor system, a horizontal rod system and a vertical rod system. The systems are modular so that various constructs and configurations can be created and customized to a patient.
Claims22
A dynamic spine stabilization system comprising:
- an anchor system that is adapted to be secured to the vertebra of the spine;
- the anchor system including first and second anchors that are adapted to be secured to a first vertebra and third and fourth anchors that are adapted to be secured to a second vertebra and said first, second, third and fourth anchors each including a first, second, third, and fourth head respectively;
- a first horizontal rod system including a first horizontal rod that can be selectively connected to the first head and the second head of the first and second anchors respectively;
- said first horizontal rod system including a first deflection rod and a second deflection rod, which first and second rods are mounted to said first horizontal rod;
- a second horizontal rod including vertical rod mounts;
- and
- a vertical rod system including first and second vertical rods, which first vertical rod is mounted onto said first deflection rod and said second vertical rod is mounted on said second deflection rod.
The system of clam 1 including a sleeve with a reduced diameter tip and a body, which the body being able to fit over the first horizontal rod and the first deflection rod to assist the implantation of the first horizontal rod system in a patient.
A dynamic spine stabilization system comprising:
- an anchor system that is adapted to be secured to the vertebra of the spine;
- the anchor system including first and second anchors that are adapted to be secured to a first vertebra and third and fourth anchors that are adapted to be secured to a second vertebra and said first, second, third and fourth anchors each including a first, second, third, and fourth head respectively;
- a first horizontal rod system including a first horizontal rod that can be selectively connected to the first head and the second head of the first and second anchors respectively;
- said first horizontal rod system including a first deflection rod and a second deflection rod, which first and second rods are mounted to said first horizontal rod;
- a first mount that mounts the first deflection rod onto said first horizontal rod such that a free end of said first deflection rod is pointed toward a first end of said first horizontal rod and said first mount that mounts the second deflection rod onto said first horizontal rod such that a free end of said second deflection rod is pointed toward a second end of the first horizontal rod;
- a second horizontal rod including vertical rod mounts;
- and
- a vertical rod system including first and second vertical rods, which first vertical rod is mounted onto said first deflection rod and said second vertical rod is mounted on said second deflection rod;
- a first connector to mount said first vertical rod on said first deflection rod so that said first vertical rod can rotate about said first horizontal rod and said first vertical rod can pivot about said first connector from at least a position that is about perpendicular to said first horizontal rod to a position that is about parallel to said first horizontal rod;
- and
- a second connector to mount said second vertical rod on said second deflection rod so that said second vertical rod can rotate about said first horizontal rod and said first vertical rod can pivot about said second connector from at least a position that is about perpendicular to said first horizontal rod to a position that is about parallel to said first horizontal rod.
A dynamic spine stabilization system comprising:
- an anchor system that is adapted to be secured to the vertebra of the spine.
- the anchor system including first and second anchors that are adapted to be secured to a first vertebra and third and fourth anchors that are adapted to be secured to a second vertebra and said first, second, third and fourth anchors each including a first, second, third, and fourth saddle heads respectively;
- each of said first, second, third and fourth anchors include yoke shaped heads to which said saddle heads of said respective first, second, third and four anchors;
- a first horizontal rod system including a first horizontal rod that can be selectively connected to the first head and the second head of the first and second anchors respectively;
- said first horizontal rod system including a first deflection rod and a second deflection rod, which first and second rods are mounted to said first horizontal rod;
- a first mount that mounts the first deflection rod onto said first horizontal rod such that a free end of said first deflection rod is pointed toward a first end of said first horizontal rod and said first mount that mounts the second deflection rod onto said first horizontal rod such that a free end of said second deflection rod is pointed toward a second end of the first horizontal rod;
- a second horizontal rod including vertical rod mounts;
- and
- a vertical rod system including first and second vertical rods, which first vertical rod is mounted onto said first deflection rod and said second vertical rod is mounted on said second deflection rod;
- a first connector to mount said first vertical rod on said first deflection rod so that said first vertical rod can rotate about said first horizontal rod and said first vertical rod can pivot about said first connector from at least a position that is about perpendicular to said first horizontal rod to a position that is about parallel to said first horizontal rod;
- and
- a second connector to mount said second vertical rod on said second deflection rod so that said second vertical rod can rotate about said first horizontal rod and said first vertical.
