Abstract
By setting an area for displaying OSD data, a high-intensity part of this area is highlighted and an area which is not to be highlighted is set. Also, by performing translucent display of the OSD data and natural-image data, an area which is not to be highlighted can be set.

A video signal processing apparatus comprising:
- first storage means for storing first image data;
- second storage means for storing second image data;
- comparing means for comparing luminance-signal component data in the first image data with a predetermined level;
- modifying means for modifying the second image data based on the output from the comparing means;
- and
- synthesizing means for synthesizing the first image data and the second image data modified by the modifying means and outputting the synthesized data,
- wherein the modifying means blinks the second image data, in which the blink cycle is variable.
