Abstract
An apparatus for displaying digital image files on a standard display device such as a television set is provided in the form of a set-top box. The box includes an integrated circuit and memory buffer for computing an image from a file, a second memory buffer for storing computed images, and a video output for delivering the images to the display device. Preferably, the set-top box also includes an infrared receiver for remote operation. The set-top box receives the image files from standard storage media such as floppy disks.

A system for creation and manipulation of still images, the system comprising:
- an image processing memory portion;
- a digital media reader configured to receive a plurality of images from a first storage medium;
- a controller configured to transfer the received plurality of images to the image processing memory portion;
- a software system configured to:
- prepare the received plurality of images for rendering on a display as a thumbnail gallery;
- using a selection of two or more of the plurality of images, remove remaining images other than the two or more selected images from the thumbnail gallery;
- and
- using a rearrangement of the two or more selected images, create a photo album, wherein the creating the photo album comprises performing one or more tasks associated with one or more of the two or more selected images;
- and
- an interface configured to receive input indicating the selection of two or more of the plurality of images;
- wherein the photo album comprises the two or more selected images, and wherein the photo album is stored by the system.
A method for creating and manipulating still images using a system that comprises an image processing memory portion, a digital media reader, a controller, a software system, and an interface, the method comprising:
- receiving, from the digital media reader, a plurality of images from a first storage medium;
- transferring, by the controller, the received plurality of images to the image processing memory portion;
- preparing, by the software system, the received plurality of images for rendering on a display as a thumbnail gallery;
- receiving, by the interface, input indicating a selection of two or more of the plurality of images from the thumbnail gallery;
- removing, by the software system, remaining images other than the two or more selected images from the thumbnail gallery;
- and
- creating, by the software system, a photo album, wherein the creating the photo album comprises performing one or more tasks associated with one or more of the two or more selected images, wherein the photo album comprises the two or more selected images, and wherein the photo album is stored by the system.
A system for creation and manipulation of still images, the system comprising:
- means for receiving a plurality of images from a first storage medium;
- means for preparing the received plurality of images for rendering as a thumbnail gallery on a display;
- means for receiving input indicating a selection of two or more the plurality of images from the thumbnail gallery;
- means for removing remaining images other than the two or more selected images from the thumbnail gallery;
- means for creating a photo album, wherein the creating the photo album comprises performing one or more tasks associated with one or more of the two or more selected images;
- and
- means for storing the photo album.
