Abstract
The present invention provides a cytotoxic 7 to 25-mer peptide with three or more cationic residues which has one or more non-generic bulky and lipophilic amino acids, as well as esters, amides, salts and cyclic derivatives thereof as well as methods of preparing the peptides, pharmaceutical compositions containing them, and their use as medicaments, particularly as antibacterial or antitumor agents.
Claims24
1-15. (canceled)
A method of enhancing the cytotoxicity or selectivity of a 7 to 25 mer peptide with three or more cationic residues by incorporating therein a non-genetic bulky and lipophilic amino acid.
17-18. (canceled)
A cytotoxic 7-25 mer peptide with three or more cationic residues, having a lipophilic cyclic group comprising 5 non-hydrogen atoms attached to its N-terminal amine, as well as esters, amides, salts and cyclic derivatives thereof.
A cytotoxic 7-25 mer peptide with three or more cationic residues, having a lipophilic group comprising at least 6 non-hydrogen atoms attached to its C-terminal carboxy group as well as esters, amides, salts and cyclic derivatives thereof.
A method of enhancing the cytotoxicity or selectivity of a 7 to 25 mer peptide with three or more cationic residues, which comprises incorporating at its N-terminal amine a cyclic lipophilic group comprising 5 non-hydrogen atoms.
A method of enhancing the cytotoxicity or selectivity of a 7 to 25 mer peptide with three or more cationic residues, which comprises incorporating at its C-terminal carboxy group a lipophilic group comprising at least 6 non-hydrogen atoms.
