Erosion-corrosion resistant carbide cermets for long term high temperature service

A bulk cermet material comprising:

• (a) about 50 vol % to about 95 vol %, based on the total volume of the cermet composition, of a ceramic phase, wherein the ceramic phase being a chromium carbide selected from the group consisting of Cr23C6, Cr7C3, Cr3C2 and mixtures thereof;
• and
• (b) a binder phase comprising alloys containing about 4 wt % to about 52 wt % Fe;
• about 36 wt % to about 78 wt % Ni, and about 12 wt % to about 18 wt % Cr;
• and
• wherein the overall thickness of the bulk cermet material is greater than 5 millimeters.
