Smart browsing providers

A content provider system associated with a content provider, the content provider system being configured to:

• receive a request, from a user device, for content offered by the content provider;
• based on receiving the request for content offered by the content provider, access chrome specification information defining a control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to the content offered by the content provider;
• and
• send, to the user device, the chrome specification information defining the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to the content offered by the content provider such that receipt of the chrome specification information by the user device enables the user device to configure a chrome portion of a browser of the user device to include the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to the content offered by the content provider.

A method of providing chrome specification information to a user device to enable the user device to update a chrome portion of a browser of the user device, the method comprising:

• establishing, over a network and by a server associated with a content provider, a connection with a user device;
• accessing, by the server associated with the content provider, chrome specification information defining a control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to content offered by the content provider;
• and
• providing, over the connection established between the server associated with the content provider and the user device, the chrome specification information defining the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to content offered by the content provider to enable the user device to configure a chrome portion of a browser of the user device to include the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to the content offered by the content provider.

A server associated with a content provider, the server being configured to:

• establish, over a network, a connection with a user device;
• access chrome specification information defining a control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to content offered by the content provider;
• and
• provide, over the connection established with the user device, the chrome specification information defining the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to content offered by the content provider to enable the user device to configure a chrome portion of a browser of the user device to include the control element configured to invoke functionality corresponding to the content offered by the content provider.
