Abstract
A data processing system having a memory for storing instructions and several central processing units for executing instructions, each central processing unit including an adaptive power supply which provides, among other data, IR (voltage) drop information. Circuitry is provided that receives the IR drop information from the many central processing units, selects a central processing unit which has the lowest IR drop and which is available to execute instructions and dispatches instructions to the selected central processing unit from the memory.
Claims17
A method of dispatching instructions in a data processing system having a memory for storing instructions and a plurality of central processing units (CPUs), each CPU providing a signal indicating CPU IR drop data, the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving IR drop signals from the plurality of CPUs,
- selecting a CPU according to the received IR drop data, and
- dispatching instructions from said memory to the selected CPU.
A data processing system comprising:
- a plurality of central processing units (CPUs) where each CPU having an IR drop measurement circuit providing an IR drop data signal,
- a memory including program instructions for execution by a CPU and connected to said plurality of CPUs,
- a selection circuit connected to the plurality of CPU's to receive IR drop data signals and providing a signal indicating a selected CPU, and
- an instruction dispatching circuit connected to the memory and the plurality of CPUs and providing instructions to the selected CPU.
A computer program product stored in a computer operable media, the computer operable media containing instructions for execution by a computer, which, when executed by the computer, cause the computer to implement a method of dispatching instructions in a data processing system having a memory for storing instructions and a plurality of central processing units (CPUs), each CPU providing a signal indicating CPU IR drop data, the method comprising the steps of:
- receiving IR drop signals from the plurality of CPUs,
- selecting a CPU according to the received IR drop data, and
- dispatching instructions from said memory to the selected CPU.
