Abstract
In one embodiment, a central data repository stores product code information. The central data repository can receive permissions from providers of the produce code information. The permissions can indicate whether the product code information can be provided to a third party.

A central data repository adapted to store product code information, the central data repository receiving permissions from providers of the product code information, the permissions indicating whether the product code information can be provided to a third party.
A central data repository adapted to store product code information, the central data repository receiving permissions from providers of the product code information, the permissions indicating whether the product code information can be provided to a third party, wherein permissions include a “share with third party and with those that the third parties designate” permission.
A central data repository adapted to store index information and permission information, the central data repository receiving index information from product code data providers, the index information associating a product code with the identity of a product code data provider having product code information for that product code, the central data repository also receiving permission information from product code data providers, the permission information indicating whether the product code information can be provided to a third party.
