Abstract
There is described a method of controlling a basestation in a cellular wireless communications network, the method comprising, within the basestation, autonomously and dynamically adapting a maximum value for a total transmit power of the basestation, such that interference between the basestation and other access points in the vicinity is minimized.
Claims37
A method of controlling a basestation in a cellular wireless communications network, the method comprising:
- within the basestation, autonomously and dynamically adapting a maximum value for a total transmit power of the basestation.
A method of selecting a carrier for communications between a basestation and one or more mobile devices in a cellular wireless communications network, the method comprising, within the basestation, autonomously and dynamically:
- determining whether there are any carriers that are unused by neighbouring macrolayer basestations;
- if there are unused carriers by neighbouring macrolayer basestations, determining whether there are any carriers that are unused by neighbouring other basestations;
- if there are unused carriers by neighbouring other basestations, selecting the carrier that is unused by neighbouring other basestations and has the smallest received signal strength indicator (RSSI).
A method of selecting a scrambling code for encoding communications between a basestation and one or more mobile devices in a cellular wireless communications network, the method comprising, within the basestation, autonomously and dynamically:
- calculating the interference for one or more scrambling codes;
- selecting the scrambling code with the least interference;
- comparing said least interference with an interference threshold;
- and
- if said least interference is less than said interference threshold, selecting said scrambling code;
- and
- if said least interference is greater than said interference threshold, returning an error message to a management system.
A method of controlling the operation of a basestation in a cellular wireless communications network, the method comprising:
- determining at least one operating parameter of the basestation, based on measurements of the radio environment;
- and,
- in the event that said operating parameter indicates an error condition, sending a message to a user of the basestation, requesting that the basestation be repositioned.
