Instructional System and Method for Learning Reading

An instructional system for teaching of English phonics and reading, comprising

• a set of less than 100 flashcards in physical form with a letter, letters or words printed on the flashcard, or in graphic form rendered on a computer screen by computer software, wherein:
• a first subset comprises 26 flashcards each containing a single different letter of the English alphabet;
• an optional second subset comprises three flashcards each containing a different phonemes from the group /ch/, /sh/ and /th/;
• a third subset comprises at least five flashcards each containing a different word in the structure of vowel-consonant-vowel, wherein each vowel from the group A, E, I, O and U is represented in at least one word as the first vowel pronounced with the long-vowel sound and the second vowel in each word is E;
• a fourth subset comprises at least six flashcards each containing a word in the form consonant-vowel-consonant-vowel, wherein each vowel from the group A, E, I, O, U and Y is represented in at least one word as the first vowel pronounced with the long-vowel sound and the second vowel in each word is E;
• a fifth subset comprises at least one flashcard containing a word in the form consonant-vowel-vowel-consonant-vowel, wherein the first consonant is Q and the first vowel is U and the third vowel is E;
• a sixth subset comprises at least ten flashcards each containing a different word having two adjacent vowels wherein each pair of adjacent vowels is different in each of the words;
• and
• a seventh subset comprises between ten and fifty flashcards consisting of three-letter words of the structure consonant-vowel-consonant wherein the vowel has the short-vowel sound.

A business method for selling instruction English reading services, comprising the steps of:

• providing a subscription service for at least one customer, wherein the at least one customer pays a fee for access to a software program on a server, the software program being for learning English;
• providing an Internet-enabled server having a software program for learning English, the program further comprising an instructional system for learning English phonics and reading wherein the instructional system further comprises:
• a set of instructional alphabetic letters, three-letter words or a combination thereof;
• at least a first subset of between 14 and 70 three-letter words having the structure consonant-vowel-consonant wherein the vowel has the short-vowel sound;
• optionally, a second subset consisting of the different letters of the English alphabet;
• and wherein the total of separate letters and words in the set is fewer than 100;
• enabling at least one customer to access the instructional system on the server from the customer's client computer.
