Abstract
Through embodiments an optical medium and method of fabricating the optical medium including content replication deterrent features is disclosed. The medium includes protective features for preventing the unintentional activation of the content replication deterrent features by the ambient environment.
Claims32
A method for fabricating an optical medium readable by an optical reader, said method comprising the steps of:
- molding a substrate so as to have a first major surface with information pits and information lands thereon and a second major surface that is relatively planar;
- applying a first reflective material over said first major surface so as to cover a portion of said first major surface but not all of said first major surface;
- applying an optical state change security material capable of converting from a first optical state to a second optical state upon exposure to the laser of an optical reader to the portion of said first major surface devoid of said first reflective material;
- applying a second reflective material over that portion of said first major surface wherein said optical state change security material is applied:
- and
- incorporating a protective material into said optical medium at least over an area encompassing said optical state change security material.
An optical medium, readable by an optical reader, comprising:
- a substrate molded so as to have a first major surface with information pits and information lands thereon and a second major surface that is relatively planar;
- a first reflective material over said first major surface so as to cover a portion of said first major surface but not all of said first major surface;
- an optical state change security material, capable of converting from a first optical state to a second optical state upon exposure to the laser of an optical reader, applied to the portion of said first major surface devoid of said first reflective material;
- a second reflective material applied over that portion of said first major surface wherein said optical state change security material is applied:
- and
- a protective material incorporated into said optical medium at least over an area encompassing said optical state change security material.
