Abstract
Various systems and methods for providing a pulse width modulation soft start feature in a redundant power supply are disclosed. One method involves comparing an input voltage, which is received from a load unit, to a threshold voltage. If the input voltage is less than the threshold voltage, a PWM signal is used to control a switch, which is configured to electrically couple a redundant power supply to the load unit when closed. The duty cycle of the PWM signal is then modified according to a predetermined sequence.
Claims21
A method comprising:
- comparing an input voltage to a threshold voltage, wherein
- the input voltage is received from a load unit;
- if the input voltage is less than the threshold voltage, controlling a switch based upon a PWM signal, wherein
- the switch is configured to electrically couple a redundant power supply to the load unit;
- and
- modifying a duty cycle of the PWM signal according to a predetermined sequence.

A system comprising:
- a redundant power supply comprising:
- a voltage comparator configured to compare an input voltage to a first threshold voltage;
- a switch configured to couple a power supply to an output port;
- and
- a PWM signal module coupled to the voltage comparator and the switch, wherein
- the PWM signal module is configured to select a PWM signal to control the switch, if the input voltage is less than the first threshold voltage, and
- the PWM signal module is configured to modify a duty cycle of the PWM signal according to a predetermined sequence.

A system comprising:
- means for comparing an input voltage to a threshold voltage, wherein the input voltage is received from a load unit;
- means for controlling a switch based upon a PWM signal, if the input voltage is less than the threshold voltage, wherein
- the switch is configured to electrically couple a redundant power supply to the load unit;
- and
- means for modifying a duty cycle of the PWM signal according to a predetermined sequence.
