Abstract
Systems and methods are provided for acquiring and reconstructing projection data that is mathematically complete or sufficient using a computed tomography (CT) system having stationary distributed X-ray sources and detector arrays. In one embodiment, a non-sequential activation is employed to acquire mathematically complete or sufficient projection data. In another embodiment, a distributed source is provided as a generally semicircular segment. In such an embodiment, an alternating activation scheme may be employed to allow one or more helices of image data to be acquired.

An imaging system comprising:
- a generally semicircular or circular detector array comprising a plurality of detector elements configured to generate responsive signals corresponding to the X-rays incident upon the detector array and comprising a gap having no detector elements on a portion of the detector array;
- and
- a generally semicircular source configured to emit X-rays from a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations that are configured to be activated non-sequentially, wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within the gap.
An imaging system comprising:
- a generally semicircular or circular detector array comprising a plurality of detector elements configured to generate responsive signals corresponding to the X-rays incident upon the detector array and comprising a gap having no detector elements on a portion of the detector array;
- and
- a generally semicircular source configured to emit X-rays from a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations that are configured to be activated in an alternating pattern such that one or more X-ray source locations is skipped between each activated X-ray source location, wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within the gap.
A method for acquiring one or more sets of imaging data, comprising:
- non-sequentially activating a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations of a generally semicircular source such that each X-ray source location causes emission of X-rays when activated, wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within a gap of a generally semicircular or circular detector array;
- and
- generating a respective signal at the detector array corresponding to each respective activation of an X-ray source location, wherein each respective signal corresponds to the X-rays incident on the detector array.
A method for acquiring one or more sets of imaging data, comprising:
- activating a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations of a generally semicircular source in an alternating pattern such that one or more X-ray source locations is skipped between each activated X-ray source location, wherein each X-ray source location causes emission of X-rays when activated and wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within a gap of a generally semicircular or circular detector array;
- and
- generating a respective signal at the detector array corresponding to each respective activation of an X-ray source location, wherein each respective signal corresponds to the X-rays incident on the detector array.
One or more tangible, machine-readable media, comprising code executable to perform the acts of:
- non-sequentially activating a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations of a generally semicircular source such that each X-ray source location causes emission of X-rays when activated, wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within a gap of a generally semicircular or circular detector array;
- and
- generating a respective signal at a detector array corresponding to each respective activation of an X-ray source location, wherein each respective signal corresponds to the X-rays incident on the detector array.
One or more tangible, machine-readable media, comprising code executable to perform the acts of:
- activating a plurality of addressable X-ray source locations of a generally semicircular source in an alternating pattern such that one or more X-ray source locations is skipped between each activated X-ray source location, wherein each X-ray source location causes emission of X-rays when activated and wherein the generally semicircular source is disposed completely or partially within a gap of a generally semicircular or circular detector array;
- and
- generating a respective signal at a detector array corresponding to each respective activation of an X-ray source location, wherein each respective signal corresponds to the X-rays incident on the detector array.
