Abstract
The present invention includes a novel polyol prepolymer including an aliphatic amine, aromatic amine, or a mixture of both aliphatic and aromatic amines with an epoxy functional silicone to produce the novel polyol prepolymer chain extender. In another aspect of the invention, the novel polyol prepolymer chain extender is reacted with a polyisocyanate to produce a novel silicone modified polyurea having improved adhesion, chemical resistance, UV stability, and decreased shrinkage properties.
Claims28
A modified aliphatic prepolymer A-component for a polyurea comprising:
- at least one polyetheramine;
- and
- at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate.
A modified aliphatic prepolymer B-component for a polyurea comprising:
- a modified aliphatic prepolymer including at least one polyetheramine and at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- an aromatic amine.
A modified polyurea comprising:
- a B-component which includes at least one polyol prepolymer chain extender which comprises:
- a modified aliphatic prepolymer including at least one polyetheramine and at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- an aromatic amine;
- an A-component which comprises:
- at least one polyetheramine;
- and
- at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate.
A ballistic protection panel comprising:
- a first polyurea layer defining a plane comprising:
- a B-component which includes at least one polyol prepolymer chain extender which comprises:
- a modified aliphatic prepolymer including at least one polyetheramine and at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- an aromatic amine;
- an A-component which comprises:
- at least one polyetheramine;
- and
- at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- a second polyurea layer substantially parallel to said plane of said first silicone modified polyurea layer comprising:
- a B-component which includes at least one polyol prepolymer chain extender which comprises:
- a modified aliphatic prepolymer including at least one polyetheramine and at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- an aromatic amine;
- an A-component which comprises:
- at least one polyetheramine;
- and
- at least one aliphatic polyisocyanate;
- and
- a first layer of a plurality barrels interposed between said first polyurea layer and said second polyurea layer, said barrels having a substantially curved side substantially adjacent to said first silicone modified polyurea layer and said second polyurea layer.
A method for making a modified polyurea comprising:
- mixing an aliphatic polyisocyanate with a secondary diamine polyetheramine to produce a modified aliphatic prepolymer A-component of said modified polyurea;
- adding a portion of said modified aliphatic prepolymer A-component to an aromatic amine to produce a B-component of said modified polyurea;
- and
- mixing said A-component to said B-component to produce said modified polyurea.
