Electromagnetically-actuated micropump for liquid metal alloy enclosed in cavity with flexible sidewalls

An apparatus comprising:

• a heat pipe;
• a cavity connected to an inlet end and an outlet end of said heat pipe, said cavity having sidewalls that are flexible;
• a liquid metal alloy enclosed within said heat pipe and said cavity;
• and
• one or more electromagnets disposed around said cavity outside said sidewalls.

An apparatus comprising:

• a chip, said chip having a small hot spot;
• a first thermal interface material (TIM1) disposed in contact with said small hot spot;
• a heat pipe with an inlet end disposed in contact with said TIM1;
• and
• a micropump connected to said heat pipe, said micropump comprising:
• a cavity having sidewalls that are flexible and non-metallic;
• and
• electromagnets disposed around said cavity outside said sidewalls;
• and
• a working fluid enclosed within said heat pipe and said cavity, said working fluid having a high thermal conductivity, high electrical conductivity, and being ferromagnetic.
