Abstract
Systems and methods for liquid dosing of blender systems are disclosed. In some embodiments, a liquid injection device is used within a cascade mixing chamber of the blender system to dose granular polymer material with a liquid additive such as a liquid cross-linker for the polymer.
Claims18
A blender system comprising:
- one or more individual metering devices, each metering device comprising an individual material hopper for containing a granular material ingredient to be blended;
- a starve-fed mixing chamber operably coupled to the metering devices, the starve-fed mixing chamber configured to receive the granular material ingredients from each metering device and mix the ingredients;
- a liquid ingredient dosing device disposed within the starve-fed mixing chamber for injecting the liquid ingredient into the path of the granular material ingredients as they fall through or out of the mixing chamber.
A liquid dosing device for a gravimetric blender system, the liquid dosing device comprising:
- a liquid inlet port configured to receive a liquid additive;
- a nozzle fluidly coupled to the inlet port via a line, the nozzle configured to spray the liquid;
- a mounting plate having an aperture therethrough;
- and
- a cylindrical post disposed concentrically over the line and slidably disposed within the aperture of the mounting plate, whereby variably sliding the post through the aperture, alters the liquid spray configuration from the nozzle in relation to an outlet of a mixing chamber in the gravimetric blender system.

A method of liquid dosing in a blender systems comprising the steps of:
- introducing a pelletized, particulate, or granular material gravimetrically into a starve-fed gravimetric mixing chamber via at least one metering device;
- liquid dosing the material with a liquid additive as the material passes through or out of the mixing chamber;
- and
- passing the material/additive blend to a material processing machine.
