Abstract
A thermal dissipation apparatus includes a primary heat sink. The primary heat sink includes a first base member including a component coupling surface and a secondary heat sink coupling surface, and a plurality of fins extending from the first base member. A secondary heat sink may be provided such that the primary heat sink is operable to provide thermal dissipation in a low profile form factor chassis while the secondary heat sink may be coupled with the primary heat sink to provide more optimal thermal dissipation in a high profile form factor chassis.
Claims20
A thermal dissipation apparatus comprising:
- a primary heat sink comprising:
- a first base member including a component coupling surface and a secondary heat sink coupling surface;
- and
- a plurality of fins extending from the first base member.
An information handling system comprising:
- a chassis;
- a heat producing component mounted to the chassis;
- and
- a primary heat sink coupled to the heat producing component, the primary heat sink comprising:
- a first base member including a secondary heat sink coupling surface and a component coupling surface coupled to the heat producing component;
- and
- a plurality of fins extending from the first base member.
A method for thermal dissipation in an information handling system comprising:
- providing a chassis including an internal height;
- mounting an information handling system including a heat producing component in the chassis;
- coupling a primary heat sink to the heat producing component, the primary heat sink including a secondary heat sink coupling surface which is operable to couple a secondary heat sink to the primary heat sink;
- and
- determining whether the internal height in the chassis is sufficient to house the primary heat sink with a secondary heat sink coupled to the primary heat sink.
