Abstract
Linear low density polyethylene compositions suitable for the production of films having improved breathability are provided. The compositions which are comprised of a linear low density polyethylene base resin, a functionalized polyolefin and a polyester polyol are melt blended under conditions of mixing and shear to increase their melt elasticity.
Claims19
A composition comprising:
- (a) 70 to 97 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, linear low density polyethylene base resin;
- (b) 2.5 to 25 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, modified polyolefin containing acid or acid derivative functionality;
- and
- (c) 0.5 to 5 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, polyester polyol.

A linear low density film having improved breathability produced by melt blending a composition comprising (a) 70 to 97 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, linear low density polyethylene base resin;
- (b) 2.5 to 25 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, modified polyolefin containing acid or acid derivative functionality;
- and (c) 0.5 to 5 weight percent, based on the total weight of the composition, polyester polyol, said melt blending carried out under conditions of mixing and shear such that the melt elasticity of the composition is at least 40 percent greater than that of the linear low density polyethylene base resin.
